In 2018, Baobab Health Trust developed a Strategic Plan. The plan was developed to aid the organization with strategic direction. During the development of this strategic plan, 4 strategic pillars were identified and these were as follows: systems productivity and quality, scaling up EMR systems deployment, capacity building, infrastructure and resource mobilization. The objectives of this strategic plan have been formulated around these strategic pillars. The strategic objectives include:
1. To improve EMR systems productivity and quality.
2. To scale up the deployment of BHT EMR systems to a national level.
3. To strengthen infrastructure development.
4. To strengthen BHT’s long-term institutional capacity to develop and implement high-quality EMR systems.
5. To strengthen the financial resource base for BHT for purposes of sustainability.
Overall, the Strategic Plan seeks to help the organization improve its capacity to develop and deploy high-quality evidence-based EMR systems for Malawi’s health sector, whilst also reducing product development times. Furthermore, the strategic plan is envisaged to build the capacity of Baobab Health Trust clients specifically the MoHP, CHAM and private health providers in the maintenance of these systems. The plan also expects BHT and its clients to effectively monitor the performance of the deployed EMR systems and respond appropriately to address emerging problems.
The overall goal of this strategic plan is to build the capacity of BHT to design, test, implement and maintain high-quality and effective EMR systems for use in the health sector in Malawi and the region for effective management of patients.
To build, deploy and maintain innovative, robust and sustainable health care information systems suitable for Malawi and the region in collaboration with the public and private sectors and development partners.
To lead the improvement of health service delivery through information and communication technology in Malawi and the region.
